DDOS Attack Against our Website

Someone thought it would be fun to initiate a brute force attack against our password reset mechanism today. If you received an email from our system with a link to change your password for the Newsbin Control Panel, please disregard. No passwords were leaked and no accounts were hacked but access to our website may be slow as we are still in the process of mitigating the attack.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to Contact us.

Technical Support Contact Info

If you are using our Technical Support Contact Form, please check your spam folder for responses if you don't receive an immediate auto-reply that your support request was received. Outlook and yahoo emails specifically seem to filter us out unless you explicitly allow email from newsbin.com. We promise a 24 hour turnaround but strive to answer requests within hours, or at least within the same day. If you don't hear from us, 99% of the time it's due to spam filters. The other 1% means it fell through the cracks or we are doing more research to provide the best answer.

Wierd NZB format found in the wild...

Some indexing sites are delivering NZBs containing badly formatted subject info that prevents older versions of Newsbin from grouping them correctly. If you have been seeing these NZBs, you should upgrade to 6.81 Beta 2 which has logic to handle them. You will need to load directly into the download list by using an autoload folder or by setting the "Automatic Download" option under Options -> Settings -> NZB Options in order for them to be processed correctly. If you find any other issues, you can contact us through the Newsbin Support Form or the Newsbin Forums.

You can download 6.81 Beta 2 from the Newsbin Beta Page. This is a free upgrade.

Version 6.80 Released!

We have released Version 6.80. The most signficant changes since 6.73 are:

There are two known issues reported by very few people that are already being addressed in an upcoming 6.81.

  1. Unwanted behavior if you run out of disk space
  2. Rare cases where files get stuck in the Download list

Other than that, Version 6.80 is much better than the last production release. To clarify, a rare case means 3 people have reported it out of 2,000+ people already running 6.80. The workaround is to move the files to the wish list and then back to the download list. If you encounter this problem, please let us know as we are still trying to characterize it so we can get it fixed in 6.81. You can either use the Newsbin Support Form or in the Newsbin Forums to report any issues.

You can download 6.80 from the Newsbin Download Page. As always, registered users receive free upgrades f or life.

Astraweb recommended Newsbin Pro. Tried it and it was able to download complete files my other newsreader could only download partials of. Newsbin Pro also combined my rar files that I used to have to combine manually. Paid $30 for the other newsreader and it doesn't come with lifetime upgrades either.
